Witton Lodge Community Association - Teresa Compton

I moved to Perry Common with my husband John and 2 Children in 1978. I first got involved in the community as a volunteer in 2000 and I became a resident director of WLCA in the same year.
In 2005, WLCA became one of 15 ‘Guide Neighbourhoods’ in the Country and I became one of the Resident Guides. Through the Guide Neighbourhoods Programme I have met a lot of other people who also volunteer in their community and who are working to make their neighbourhoods a safe, happy and sustainable community – much the same as we are trying to do in Perry Common.
Also in 2005, WLCA took over the management of the Community Centre of Witton Lodge Road to stop it closing and I have taken on the responsibility of managing this on behalf of WLCA. It is a great facility for local people to use and enjoy.
I am really glad I got involved and would recommend getting involved to anybody…there’s always lots more that needs to be done to sustain the community.
